【摘要】:ThisEuropeanStandardgivesguidanceforthedeterminationoforganiccarbonindrinkingwater,groundwater,surfacewater,seawaterandwastewater.Itdealswithdefinitions,interferences,reagents,andthesamplepretreatmentofwatersampleswithacontentoforganiccarbonrangingfrom0,3mg/1to1000mg/lwhilethelowervalueisonlyapplicableinspecialcases,forexampledrinkingwater,measuredwithinstrumentscapableofmeasuringtheselowlevels.Higherconcentrationsmaybedeterminedafterappropriatedilution.ThisEuropeanStandarddoesnotdealwiththeinstrument-dependentaspects.Inadditiontoorganiccarbon,thewatersamplemaycontaincarbondioxideorionsofcarbonicacid.PriortotheTOCdetermination,itisessentialthatthisinorganiccarbonisremovedbypurgingtheacidifiedsamplewithagaswhichisfreefromCO2andorganiccompounds.Alternatively,bothtotalcarbon(TC)andtotalinorganiccarbon(TIC)maybedeterminedandtheorganiccarboncontent(TOC)maybecalculatedbysubtractingthetotalinorganiccarbonfromtheTC.ThismethodisparticularlysuitableforsamplesinwhichthetotalinorganiccarbonislessthantheTOC.Purgeableorganicsubstances,suchasbenzene,toluene,cyclohexane,andchloroformmaypartlyescapeuponstripping.Inthepresenceofthesesubstances,theTOCconcentrationisdeterminedseparately,orthedifferentialmethod(TC-TIC=TOC)maybeapplied.Byusingthedifferentialmethod,thevalueoftheTOCshouldbehigherthantheTIC,oratleastofsimilarsize.Cyanide,cyanate,andparticlesofelementalcarbon(soot)whenpresentinthesample,willbedeterminedtogetherwiththeorganiccarbon.NOTE.Inthepresenceofhumicmaterial,lowvaluesmayoccurwhenUVradiationisused.
